Support for Global South Scholars

Planned targeted support for proposals from Global South.

LEVANTE is launching a new call for proposals, with the aim of continuing to build a truly inclusive and globally representative network. To this end, the Foundation will also offer active support to Global South researchers. This includes:

• Targeted Information sessions: Researchers based in the Global South are invited to join two tailored webinars hosted by the Jacobs Foundation to discuss the application process, eligibility, and research goals:
  • Session 1: 7 May, 09:00–10:00 CEST (03:00 GMT‑4 / 08:00 GMT / 16:00 GMT+8)- best suitable for Europe and parts of Asia
  • Session 2: 21 May, 16:00–17:00 CEST (10:00 GMT‑4 / 15:00 GMT)- best suitable for Europe and the Americas
  • To attend any of the sessions listed above, you must be a Global South researcher (as defined below). If you do not meet the criteria below, your registration for the webinar will be cancelled. Please register in the zoom link for session 1 or 2.
• Mentored Proposal Development: During the extended application period (28 September – 30 October), eligible applicants from the Global South will have the opportunity to request early feedback on their proposals ahead of final submission. Selected applicants will be paired with experienced LEVANTE mentors, who will share practical guidance and constructive feedback to support the development of competitive applications. Applicants who meet the Global South researcher criteria and opt into this support will be asked to submit a draft version of their proposal for review. Mentors will provide written feedback using a structured template. Additional details on eligibility, timelines, and how to request mentored support will be provided during the application process.

Who qualifies as a Global South researcher?

For this call, we understand Global South researchers as those who:

• Are based at institutions located in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa, Latin America, Asia, or the Middle East;

• OR are researchers from these regions who maintain active institutional or community research partnerships in these contexts.

• OR are nationals of Global South countries leading or co-leading proposals, regardless of where they are currently based;
